Before you apply to foster, please read carefully to ensure it’s a good fit for both you and the cats in our care.
Fostering with Greenpoint Cats is incredibly rewarding, but it’s also an active, hands-on commitment.
Our fosters are an essential part of the team. In addition to providing a safe, loving home, you’ll be expected to:
Spend intentional time engaging with your foster cat and getting to know their personality
Share regular updates, photos, and videos so we can market them to adopters
Communicate any health or behavior observations so we can troubleshoot together
Participate in the adoption process (video chats + occasional home visits with vetted adopters)
Help with transportation (within reason) for vet visits, foster transitions, or supply exchanges if needed
Cats are placed based on urgency and individual needs rather than preference alone. We do our best to match thoughtfully, but flexibility is key.
HOME SAFETY (non-negotiable)
All windows mustbesecurely screenedor installtemporarywindow guards/locks that prevent the window from opening more than 2 inches. This is not about whether you “don’t really open them” or “can be careful.” A determined cat only needs a very small opening to escape.
Cats are strictly indoor-only. They should only travel in a secure carrier for vet visits, adoption events, or moving foster homes.
Any doors leading to outdoor areas (backyards, patios, terraces, etc.) must be secured. This typically means having a screen door installed. If one doesn’t exist, a temporary screen solution must be set up before fostering begins.
LOCATION & LOGISTICS
We prioritize fosters located in Greenpoint and Williamsburg to keep transportation and coordination manageable.
If you’re outside the area, we may still consider your application if you’re able to handle transportation independently (vet visits, transfers, etc.) and if the placement is a strong fit.
COST
Fosters cover food, litter, and other basic supplies like toys. We cover vet care, prescription food and medications.
